"Amounting to perhaps 40,000 images this collection includes images from the early days of photography of our local railway system in Cumbria and North Lancashire right through to the recent years. Rail-served industries feature strongly and there is also coverage of railways in other parts of the UK, plus several thousand images of shipping round our coasts in the 1950s and 60s. Most images are now digitised and a comprehensive database enables detailed searches for images to be undertaken.
