The caption reads "Nuremburg engine 900 BHP". It is a uniflow steam engine of a type popular in the production of electricity, and also used in colliery winding. Although not without technical problems this type of steam engine was relatively efficient. The rounded housing at the bottom left of the photograph suggests a generator, and this is probably how it was used at Brymbo steel works. c1908
