An area near to Outwood was known as 'white rocks' because of the huge tips of material left over from a blast furnace. In "The Engineer" on the 17th April 1874 it was reported ' completion of one of their new blast furnaces which is ready for firing'. Clearly the site in the photo is still under construction which suggests 1872-3. In 1876 it was producing 'heamatite and pig iron' (probably meaning pig iron from heamatite) but by 1875 legal action against the company was in hand Seddon v OI co, and in 1886 it was formally wound up. Why is unknown.
