Coniston, great flood of 1898

"A cloudburst above Levers Water and the Coppermines valley caused 'The Great Flood' of 1898 as Church Beck failed to cope with the vast increase in flow. Church Bridge in the centre of Coniston was overwhelmed; The Black Bull was flooded, as were many other buildings." Ruskin Museum.
