HRS 290 MBBC coal boxes at Bury end Feb 1968

Wooden boxes or containers used to carry coal along the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal. The Ladyshore Colliery Company pioneered this approach which involved the use of a crane to load the containers and a sectioned hatch visible in the picture to release the load wherever it was needed.
