In 1925 there was a breach in a dam wall at Cwm Eigiau up in the mountains above the village of Dolgarrog. The photo was taken from inside the dam area showing the section of wall that failed. The water roared down the valley and overwhelmed a lower dam at Coedty which in turn failed. The full volume of water plunged over the steep valley side at Dolgarrog taking everything in its path with it including enormous boulders the size of a bungalow. Sixteen people died and huge damage was done to the village of Dolgarrog. The failure of the dam led to recommendations and improvements in dam safety.
