The boundary stone marks the area operated by the former Preston Corporation Waterworks. There is a British Hydrological Society record of rainfall for this site for the 9th Aug 1952 - " 4.15 inches of rain fell at the Langden Brook raingauge, near the Preston Corporation Water Works intake in the Trough of Bowland. Over 3 inches fell at another 6 gauges in the area between Langden and Croasdale Beck [R. Hodder]"
