HRS 1101 image two of two Cwt y Bugail packwall & entrance explained
Perhaps this photo lends itself better to 3D rather than 2D photography! At the bottom of the photo is the quarry hole, an underground entrance to extensive slate workings. On the right is a remarkable stone-built packwall. The photo can only hint at how impressive this is to see in person. This packwall supports the tramway and entrance to workings at a higher level. In the centre of the picture is the entrance to these higher level workings, clearly there must have been a wooden bridge or similar construction to link the quarry entrance and tramway. KH 2008
