Built by Lord Ashton in memory of his wife. It is 150 feet high , designed by Sir John Belcher constructed from 1906 to 1909. Pevsner says "The Ashton Memorial is the grandest monument in England" (Pevsner, Lancaster Ashton Monument website & other sources)
