The brine is pumped from deep below ground before being boiled in pans, as the water is evaporated the salt crystallises out and can be drawn off the tank in the pan-house. The photograph shows the huge cast iron tank where the brine was boiled and the various fire holes or stoking holes used to produce heat from coal
