HRS 1927 Radcliffe Goods Yard capstan 1967

The capstan on the left of the image is in the later wooden transit shed. There is no evidence of an accumulator tower offering a hydraulic supply to power the capstan and it therefore surmised that the practice of using both horses and locomotives to pull or move wagons via a lopped cable was used. I have seen this done at Liverpool Road Depot in Manchester, where injuries using the method were commonplace. KH
