Cast-iron support beams from the so-called fireproof mill. The beams are characteristically those of William Fairbairn, the great Manchester engineer, although they were clearly cast in Bury at Kay and Routledge in 1822 early in his career. The rusty metal twisted pieces are the wrought-iron tie-bars that kept everything in alignment.
