HRS 1645 Gawthorpe Hall 1995

'Built in 1660-5 for the Rev Lawrence Shuttleworth. It was built around a pre-existing tower. Modifications by Sir Charles Barry 1849-51.' Pevsner Buildings of England North Lancashire 1979.
In the right-hand foreground there is a fossil tree trunk from the local Carboniferous coal measures.
