The Scotch is the old name given to the steep hill from the centre of Radcliffe up towards the Town Hall to the north. Its correct name is Blackburn Street. The photo shows a range of shops: On the left Hamnett's Jewellers, on the right-hand side of Blackburn Street Kenneth Halliwell photographers, Emerson's, Walshaw dry cleaners, British Relay TV, and the long-established Radcliffe Company PN Kay Plumbers and electricians. The large building left rear was the Woolworth store.
